Lisa recalls the uncertainty of a long whiskey project: years of work before she could know the finished result. Talking about an earlier project connected with Widow Jane, she remembers leaving before the eventual blend was complete.
Her comparison is to sending a child off to college. The work has a life beyond the moment you leave it. For the maker, that can mean years of wondering what it will become.

For ten years, you’re wondering, “Are people going to like it?” And when’s it going to be ready? Yeah, when’s it going to be ready? And are people going to like it? And some of my first efforts, on any kind of scale, it’s like, “Is it going to be all right?” Heaven Hill’s released a project that was a passion project for me for six years before Heaven Hill bought Widow Jane. And it’s still on the market, and they’re still making it. That’s got to feel good. It feels good. It feels good. It still makes me nervous, because I left it before it got blended, too. So it’s like sending your kid to college, and like, “I did everything I could.”
