The barrel number
Think of the barrel number as the bottle’s address. It connects your pour to a particular release and its tasting notes. If you find one you love, this is the number to remember.
The proof
Proof tells you the whiskey’s strength. Our featured barrels range from 130 to 133 proof. Larry and Susie choose for how a barrel tastes at that strength; the biggest number isn’t the goal. Read it alongside the flavors that interest you.
The release size
This is how many bottles came from the release. A count of 151 means 151 were bottled, rather than 151 still on the shelf. Kentucky Bourbon Direct shows current availability.
The tasting notes
The nose is what you smell. The palate is what you taste. The finish is what lingers. You might recognize a note immediately, or find a completely different word for it. Larry talks about flavor through memory: what you’ve tasted, smelled, and loved before.
