A neighborhood bar belongs to the neighborhood.
When Larry talks about The Pearl, he talks about the people who come through the door. What they want to find on the shelf. How they feel walking in. Whether the place feels like theirs.
If neighbors keep asking for something, he listens, even when it wouldn’t be his own choice. That’s a welcome you can put into practice. Old Treasure carries the same instinct: make room for people to enjoy what they enjoy.

This is their neighborhood bar as much as it's mine When we opened the Pearl, it was less about us and less about what we wanted to expose people to and more about how they felt coming in because it was their neighborhood bar. I don't think that you replicate neighborhood bars, if that makes any sense, because it has to be a reflection of the neighborhood. So you start out with your idea and you want to offer people things that you think that they're going to love. If you regularly have people in your neighborhood asking for a product you don't carry, you start carrying that product even if it's something that you never have. They should be able to find the things that they love when they come there and more importantly they should feel comfortable there and not judged. I think that's what makes a neighborhood bar.
